If families are asking about places to get a Dyslexia diagnosis other than Iowa City are we providing any recommendations? If yes, where and if no, what is our stance?
We recommend sharing the list from DDIA. Here is the latest version. We don’t recommend evaluators, but this list is a good starting point, as it is maintained by DDIA and includes only providers that have experience in diagnosing dyslexia.

When a student moves into the district and you update them in ACHIEVE please remember to also update them in Legacy.
Having both systems updated will prevent delays and issues for districts. Reports continue to be pulled from both systems and we want to ensure information is as accurate as possible.

A reminder weightings are only completed in the system when an Initial or Reevaluation are completed. Here you will see the drop-down options for “specialized transportation” and one of these MUST be selected in order for it to be weighted accurately. This is not a required dropdown yet so you have to make sure to choose one.

As most of you know Rusti Sparks stepped down as the East Team Rep Lead after the completion of the 2022-2023 school year. Shannon Sterling will take on these duties starting in the 2023-2024 school year. Congratulations, Shannon!
There have been some recent updates to the i3 website. Release notes and links to modified text and documents are the most recent changes to i3. These updates can be accessed in the Site Updates section which is linked in the upper right-hand corner in i3.

Central Rivers AEA, in collaboration with the University of Northern Iowa, Northwest AEA, and Great Prairie AEA, is excited to offer a grant-subsidized “Grow Your Own School Psychologist” program for area educators. Candidates admitted to and who complete the program will have earned an EdS degree in School Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa at a substantially reduced price.
The program is made possible by a US Department of Education grant. The grant enables participants of the program to receive a significantly reduced tuition cost of $75 per credit hour, books required for courses to be paid for, membership costs for NASP and the ISPA to be reimbursed, and expenses for the NCSP test, the Praxis test, and the initial license with the Iowa BOEE to be paid.
The program is primarily a distance learning program, and courses will occur at times that work for the students in the cohort. The first cohort of students will begin this summer, and there will be two more cohorts, one each starting in the summer of 2024 and 2025. Individuals not admitted to the first cohort can apply for a subsequent cohort.
The grant aims to bring more mental health support and services to students in rural and underserved areas. We are looking for individuals working as special education professionals in one of the three collaborating AEAs to apply for the program. Once participants have completed the program, they will be required to make a three-year commitment to working in a rural district in one of the three AEAs.
There is an opportunity to learn more and ask questions about the program on February 22, 2023 from 1:00-3:00. You can attend in person at the Central Rivers AEA location in Cedar Falls (Iowa River Room) or join the meeting via zoom. Please see the Brochure for additional information.
